In a world that needs harmony, balance and healing, perhaps the best thing we can do is learn how to awaken our own innate “inner healers” and activate our true Buddha natures—our authentic “Selves.” In this ongoing series, Lee and special guest teachers will offer instruction on working with the dharma, mantras, visualization, meditation and principles of Tibetan medicine to awaken harmony and healing within ourselves—and we do this so that we can be of benefit to all the beings of this world.
Lee will lead us in practices of Tibetan mantra-healing—a simple but profound way to harmonize and purify ourselves in body, speech, and mind. Mantra-healing is considered liberation through sound. Using mantras from the Tibetan Buddhist and Sowa Rigpa traditions, we will learn how the combination of primordial sound, vibration, breath, visualization, and our own unique healing instruments—our voices—can bring about great healing. According to Tibetan medicine, chanting certain medical mantras can redirect habitual thought patterns, alleviate depression and anxiety, calm the nervous system, increase cognitive function, restore health, and provide protection against future disease and illness.
We will also explore how the path of dharma itself can facilitate great healing—how the practices of Right View and good motivation can have positive impacts. We will explore the benefit of becoming acquainted with our own minds—both our ordinary minds and our ultimate true natures (the enlightened mind of the Buddha). Recently, the great trauma expert Dr. Gabor Mate has been stressing that authenticity is a survival need. As we engage in practices that help remove layers of inauthenticity, destructive patterns and habituations, we will discover first a clear-minded core self—free from obstacles and suffering—and beyond that, realize that we all share this same Self. Once we are able to tap into this great Enlightened Mind or Universal Mind, we can all become agents of change, of goodness, of healing and wellness.
As we head into the colder winter months, we will join together and pray that all beings and the planet itself be free from sickness by focusing on mantras and practices that can help dispel contagion and protect against illness.
